As its latest act of shamelessly lifting gameplay mechanics wholesale from the competition, Fortnite Battle Royale will implement Apex Legends' squad respawn system in this week's v8.30 update. The announcement was made late last week by a banana in a Nathan Mooney costume, during Epic's latest Battle Royale Dev Update.
Here's how the system will work in Battle Royale: When playing squads, members of your team will drop a "Reboot Card" when they're eliminated. These cards can be inserted into new "Reboot Vans," which will summon the downed players back into the game. A light beacon will appear above the van while in use, and it'll also honk its horn to make sure that other nearby teams know a reboot is in progress. Vans will be located at "major POIs," according to the banana (POI stands for "points of interest"), and are disabled for a short time after each use. So! Other than the cooldown on resurrection, the system works exactly as it does in Apex Legends. Players even come back to life without their previous gear, which should be interesting since Battle Royale's inventory system is far more limited than Apex Legends'.
The banana didn't mention when folk should expect v8.30 to drop this week, but based on how Season 8 has been going, we'd guess that it'll land in the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 10.
