The grand finale of Marvel's decade-spanning cinematic universe, Avengers: Endgame, arrives in theaters later this week. To call it an event would be an understatement -- the film has already sold five times as many advanced tickets as Avengers: Infinity War, and we thought that movie was the big one. Theaters around the country have already begun to warn patrons about the film's extreme run time, which exceeds three hours, and if you listen closely, you can already hear vast sums of money churning beneath the surface of the Earth. As with any big-ticket Hollywood extravaganza, Avengers: Endgame will undoubtedly spawn dozens of promotional tie-ins, and today Epic gave us a glimpse at the first major cross-promotion to hit the video game industry.
The above image, tweeted this morning, strongly suggests that Captain America's shield will be coming to Fortnite Battle Royale as an in-game item, much like Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet was introduced to the game during last year's Infinity War promotional event. The text of the tweet provided little information, just a date (this Thursday, April 25), the film's tagline ("Whatever it takes."), and a hashtag (#FortniteXAvengers). In true Fortnite fashion, we figure more teaser images will surface before Thursday, but that actual gameplay details for the event will be held back until it actually starts.
As with last year's event, we expect the super-powered festivities to be limited to Battle Royale, with an extremely small chance of some limited Creative Mode inclusion. Save the World, unfortunately, is all but guaranteed to be exempt from the fun, as missing out on fun Battle Royale things has become part and parcel of the Save the World experience. As for whether Thanos and his magic glove will also return, that remains to be seen. We here at StormShield, however, fully reserve the right to take an annoying "We told you so!" victory lap if he doesn't.
