As we predicted with our unholy future-sight, Fortnite v8.30 will arrive early tomorrow morning, Wednesday, April 10, at 5 a.m. Eastern time. In addition to the usual bevy of content, tomorrow's update will also include "technical improvements" says Epic, and that apparently means that tomorrow's patch is going to be several orders of magnitude larger than is typical. Here's how it breaks down:
- 6.93 gigs for PC users
- 7.7 gigs for macOS users
- 3.9 gigs for PlayStation 4 users
- 4.06 gigs for Xbox One users
- 3.93 gigs for Nintendo Switch users
- 1.14 to 1.76 gigs for iOS users
- 1.56 to 2.98 gigs for Android users
Epic also says that "mobile devices with <6gb of space will need to re-download Fortnite," so we're not sure if the data total given above for mobile users includes re-downloading the client. At any rate, we hope your ISP doesn't impose a data cap, otherwise your Netflix allowance for this month is going to be severely truncated.
As we learned over the weekend, this update will introduce Apex Legends-style respawning to Fortnite Battle Royale's squad mode, as part of Epic's ongoing crusade to
shamelessly steal from keep up with the competition. This will be the second Apex-inspired change to Battle Royale, with the first being Fortnite's hastily implemented world marker system. Save the World is set to receive a new legendary Constructor hero, a new steampunk weapon, and new beta storm in tomorrow's update -- you can learn more about what Epic has in store for the rest of April by reading our breakdown of the latest Save the World development roadmap.
As for Creative Mode, who can really say! If Battle Royale gets anything in addition to the Reboot Vans, we're sure it'll show up in Creative Mode. Heck, those vans will probably come to Creative Mode too, so start planning your tiny homebrew Apex Legends maps now. As always, we'll have the patch notes as soon as they're available, so if you're up at 5 a.m. on a Wednesday morning for some reason, check back here after taking a long look in the mirror and asking yourself some deeply important questions about the state of your life. And check back tomorrow afternoon for our run-through of everything in the new patch that actually matters! See y'all soon!
