With yesterday morning's Fortnite v7.10 update, Epic went ahead on and doubled the amount of islands available to Creative Mode players, while also introducing new prefabs and the first-ever island theme. Here we were, worrying about Epic's ability to scale for Creative Mode and handle the server-side stress that something like this must entail, and meanwhile Epic is just like "hey, here's four new islands, also they're winter themed, later nerds." Welp!
Yes, Winter Islands are now available through your personal rift in the Creative hub, four in total and in addition to the four original islands. To go with those snowy new peaks, update v7.10 also introduced six Winter Village prefabs, which look straight out of the background of a Rudolph cartoon from the 1930s. There's also a Winter Nature Gallery to go along with the normcore one, and a new set of Holiday Props to round everything out. And hey, if you're hoping to make your own elf village for submission to The Block, worry not about your existing Block creation -- Epic went and gave everybody a second Block island as well. It's a Fortnite miracle!
On the non-festive side of things, Creative Mode's first AI object has been added to the Devices menu. The "Gunner" stands in one spot and fires at any player within two tiles -- it comes in pistol, shotgun, assault rifle, and rocket launcher flavors. Granted, this is little more than an automatic turret, but it counts as an AI object in a technical sense and gives us hope for what sort of automated devices we may see in the future.
Last but not least, designers can now toggle Glider Redeploy as an option for their islands. For full information on UI changes, bug fixes, and a small handful of other changes, mosey on over to the full patch notes.
